About Gaia Belgians
For over 20 years I've been a member of Belg-L. ("BELG-L is a community of Belgian Shepherd owners – nearly every member being owned by a Belgian – one of any of the four varieties: Groenendael, Laekenois, Malinois, and Tervueren," says Miller. "If they aren't owned by at least one, then they probably are doing what you are doing, searching, questioning, researching to ensure that they know what to expect and what is expected of them once they find their special dog, no matter which variety it might be."). One of the most influential people in my life, since the day I joined, has been Mary Alice Theriot. I've cheered and laughed until I cried over Mary Alice's "Life on the Farm" posts. January 2011 I unexpectedly got the opportunity to be owned by one of Mary Alice's pups - I LEAPT at the chance, and Theriot's Dream Catcher came home with me in February, 2011.
Bennie is the reason that Gaia Belgians has been created. I finally found a dog that I felt was worthy to be a sire. He is still maturing and we haven't entered the show ring as yet (not on my list of fun things, I must admit) and we won't until he's around 3 years old. Character-wise, Bennie is everything I hope he would be, and more. He reminds me more and more of his grand-sire, Theriots Texas Renegade (UD RN OA NAJ) as the days go by. He's excellent with the livestock and can be trusted with all manner of young and small creatures. That's not to say that he doesn't have a wicked sense of humor! I do believe that Mary Alice breeds for a wicked sense of humor since she wants to share the fun!
Bennie's sire, Starbright Top Notch (VCD2 RAE HT) is owned by my dear friend, Sue Young - I have had the opportunity to meet Nacho on a few occasions and always liked his temperament and focus on Sue. Bennie has that in spades. The only thing holding him back is me, of course.

Back in Balance Minerals
This might seem an odd place to include the below information - unless you know that I have a farm (Belgians have to have sheep to herd, right?!) - plus Alethea is available to consult on any animal, ranging from horses to sheep and goats, ferrets, humans, you name it, she'll consult on it!
Minerals are CRITICALLY important to small ruminants - indeed, to ALL animals, which is why I'm thrilled to announce that my good friend, Alethea Kenney has her well balanced mineral mix available for sale through North Central Feeds Products in MN (details below). North Central Feed Products will ship as little as 1 lb of the mix. It is due to Alethea's efforts that we discovered that my flock was severely deficient in not only selenium but cobalt as well. I highly recommend both the mix (which can be custom formulated depending upon your farm's unique requirements) and Alethea. Please refer to the Back in Balance Minerals website for more in-depth information.
